Hi and Welcome! I am from Saskatchewan too!
You will love it here as you can learn anything you need too!
Crazy chicken girl here as well! We raise many many heritage breeds as well and sell day old chicks. Had eggs from quality and show lines and yes it becomes a lot of fun! And to see others enjoy them too! And heritage milk cows that are hardy and live outside even in this crazy cold! And bison! We are a super large family and many think we are crazy! We say in a good way!

We are actually expecting #14
We homestead and live on the edge of the beautiful Boreal forest where we can forage for herbs, wild mushrooms and berries! And walk for miles on trails when mosquitoes don't eat you for lunch. Lol. These wet years have been bad for those biting pests!

I basically live about 20 mins from the Manitoba border, in the fabled South Central area. Apparently that location changes with whichever weather station you listen to!

How about you?

I'll have to ask you about typing herbs in the wild out here! I've always been interested, but I've never found any books that will show me what grows up here. lol Yeah, those mosquitos are the bane of our existence here, too! We moved here in 2010, and it flooded us out for the following 4.5 years. Between the beavers and the mosquitos, I think we went a little insane!

What kind of cows do you have? And crazy is often way more fun in life!

Hmmmm...20 min from the Saskatchewan border AND flooding. We may be close. I'm 3 miles from the Sask border and we're floating around here too.
I'm in the lower west corner. Are you closer to Redvers, Moosomin or Yorkton? (You don't have to say if prefer not to) I never pinpoint in public exactly where I live...lol.

I think upper to lower Saskatchewan flooded last year! Especially on the East side! As we are upper east Saskatchewan and flooded andcso high of humidity that it killed chicks! Also our water table was right under the surface! Broke water lines like crazy in our yard!

There is a couple really neat herb books for this area!

Wickedchicken6: lol I'm closer to Yorkton. That flooding has tempted us to maybe just plant rice and be done with it!

Although, I think you guys got the worse end of the stick this year, but it always changes... Here's to hoping that next year will be better!

moving coops: lol Pretty much! Made for an interesting harvest, for all the wrong reasons! Do you have the titles for those books?
