Canadians check in here....

Hi! I'm new here - with a farm in NB. Several people have been asking about another Canadian forum - there is one called Alberta Chickens Etc. - that can be found if you google it.

So glad to find Canadians on here!! I don't have my chickens yet, but am looking desperately for Black/Blue/Splash Orpingtons. Hatching eggs would be ideal!!!
If anyone can let me know - looking for summer of 2013.

I love chicken people! They are awesome.
Hi :) Cant help you with the orpingtons but Im in moncton also. Anxiously awaiting news on our possible new farmhouse. I dream of chickens and goats and ducks every night XD.

Hi there Kidd! :)

I know of zero people in NB who have Orps, and I was on a desperate search. I know of a few who work with them in NS, but BBS.. Haven't seen them :(

What part of NB are you from? Quebec area or NS area? Or inbetween?
Hi Aoxa,
We are north of Fredericton, about 8km from Centreville - 5 minutes from the Maine border. I got some buff orpington chicks from a man there who brought them in from the states. I am assuming Murray McMurray Hatchery - but have yet to find black/blue/splash. Our chicks from last year were given to a friend, and have since started laying so I think I could get some buff chicks in the summer. I may bring some in from US if needed but want to exhaust all possibilities of local first - if I can.

Which breeds do you have?

Yay!! so that makes you a "new" farmer??
I know the drill - been dreaming for five years while we wait for buildings to go up at our farm. No house yet, but the barn is done (can you tell where the priorities were? lol!)
I'll keep looking and let you know what I find.
What breeds are you dreaming about?

It's quite pricey to import.

I have Ameraucanas, Naked Neck Turkens, Barred Plymouth Rock, Mottled Houdans, Easter Eggers, Silkies, Sizzles, Polish, Cochins, Royal Palm Turkeys, Blue Fawn Call ducks and Buff Dewlap Toulouse.

:)

There are so many breeds I WANT but Id have way too many if I did XD. I mainly want decently cold hardy dual purpose breeds. Not all in this list fit either but most do.

Rhode Island reds
Barred rocks
Wyandottes(All sorts of different patterns!)
Ameraucanas
Easter Eggers
Chanteclers
Delawares
Mottled Houdans
Orpingtons
Spangled hamburgs
Sicilian buttercups
Speckled sussex
cochin
Brahma
Australorp

Id also love a white silkie as a pet XD. Like I said I dont think ill be able to get EVERY type of chicken Id want. Some are rare but mainly I like to have a few 2-4 of each type I get so their not alone. That would make around 60 XD. Then i wouldnt be able to get turkeys ducks and geese lol. Its one of those I want everything. Ill just have to sit down and mull it over as to the final decisions.

Im new to farming though not new to animals in general. I took my vet tech first semester(Left the course because I didnt like the way it was taught) and have been involved in exotic rescues for years(Snakes and lizards, ferrets etc). My husband and I now breed a few select breed of snakes. Probably the biggest issue about moving to that house right now as the house is fully heated by wood. Were going to have to re-insulate and get some heat sources into one room to make it ready for next winter for them.

You can get all the bolded from me. I would recommend against wyandottes. I have had terrible luck with them. Both from C&S and from someone who probably bought them from C&S. Oh and I have white silkies :D They are the only ones I sell as chicks in the silkies. I don't like to breed white, but end up with a few as my starting stock carries recessive white.

I know where you can get Australorps, Rhode Island Reds, Delawares, Chanteclers and Speckled Sussex in Salisbury.

haha theres almost half my list XD. where did you get your EEs? I know that the guywho has the berkshire pigs has Americaunas.

I keep jokingly asking Al if we can keep a silkie or a duck in the house with a diaper untill we move into the house so I can have something to tide me over XD. Im suffering here looking at all these beautifull photos of babies and adult chickens and ducks and geese etc(Yours especially XD). Al is like, no, youll have to wait its not fair for the bird etc(As if im asking extremely seriously).

The guy with the pigs says he has Ameraucanas, but they aren't. They are EEs. That's where I got mine.

These are the EEs.

The white one is the closest to Ameraucana, but has green legs. Therefore she is an EE :p
