Canadians check in here....

Hello from Irishtown, New Brunswick. I'm new to all of this. I've wanted chickens for a long, long, long time. Now I'm almost done my coop and will be getting chickens soon. I plan on having 4 or 5 chickens for eggs. Anyone else close to me? I'd love to hear about keeping chickens in our cold winters. That is the only thing I'm concerned about and probably the main reason I've procrastinated so long. Cheers!

Hello Stussy

Welcome to BYC! Good to see another Maritimer here.
No problem to keep most breeds in our Canadian winter; they'll be fine without heat, as long as they have fresh water and a dry place out of the elements.

Thanks PEI chicken. I've read different views on whether to heat or not. I'm going to try and block the north wind as best I can and have a heat lamp on hand just in case. Our winters seem to be getting different year after year. It's unpredictable. Thanks for the feedback.
