Canadians check in here....

Hi, I'm from Owen Sound area, Ontario!

Trying to find Australorps, Gold & Silver Laced Wyandottes. Anyone know of any breeders in my area?

Also, what are your thoughts on Perforance Poultry and DC Heritage Poultry?
Some people are saying Performance ships, but on their website it says they do pickup only?
Saw on another thread that DC Heritage Poultry didn't have good reviews...thoughts?

Our weather here has been pretty bizarre. Going from -44 to +4 and back again. Very little snow either. One of my hens started laying last week. A definite sign that spring is on its way.

Wow!! Sounds like spring weather for sure!

We use supplemental lighting, though I love the idea of letting them rest and have spring bring them back to laying.

I have just got a solar light I will be trying out for lighting the coop with for the early mornings and evenings.

Just put in my first order to PP, I am in Durham region. They only ship within Ontario if you are in Thunder bay. The rest of us must arrange pick up!

Several breeders of the SLW you want in my area. Check out the poultry pages on FB. One in my town I believe has chicks now? I think his name is Chad.

For Orpingtons there is Greendale Farm in Chilliwack. But I tried to get
quotes for chicks to Alberta and have not heard back from them.
Maybe google them and give it a try?
Best of luck :frow

I'm working on buckeyes right now. As far as I know there's only one decent breeder here in Alberta and I already have a few birds from there. I'm also looking into chanteclers.

I have seen Chanteclers at the local shows, I think 'Kathy Stevenson' from Canadian
Heritage Breeds breeds them?! Look her up on the Facebook page for Canadian
Heritage Breeds
:thumbsup

Wow! So many Canadians joining us! Welcome :) lots of info here and so many people who can answer questions. I've only been a chicken owner for 6 months so I'm still learning, but have gathered so much info from this site it's incredible.
Wow! Lots of activity. I've been behind. Hello everyone!! :frow

Everyone's so far away. Darn...lol.
