Canadians check in here....

Lol I don’t speak French, just moved to Quebec a little over a year ago from Ontario and before that California and Arizona. But there are programs I plan to take to learn French. I did take 2 years of it in high school.

You are right, also five. Here are your laws https://www.val-des-monts.net/upload/userfiles/files/VDM en BREF - Hiver 2018 - Anglais - Web.pdf

I Love the layout! Ours is just text.

The difference is we can only have five hens in Gatineau if we have less than 2 acres.

In Val des monts it looks like you can have roosters as long as it is up to 5? It says no more than 5 poultry including roosters if you have less than 5 acres.

I was fined $300 once in California for having a rooster on 1/8 acre so that would be a plus for me

We do can have roosters...but my neighbors are too close so we don’t take any chances, and I’m over the limit so I’m not going to put me in trouble lol

Hi guys - I'm in Brampton, Southern Ontario - we don't have any birds yet as we're still in suburbia but that will change next year as we plan to move.

I'm looking for a bit of advice on coops that will survive our winter. I'm not that handy so building a coop from scratch wouldn't be my first choice, but does anyone here have experience of the Formex SnapLock (large one)? I've read good reports on the construction and size, but I don't know how the plastic would do in the cold. Or any other prefabs that you might recommend?

Thanks!

Chris

Reading some of the reviews for that coop on Amazon some people put it in their shed during the winter. Depending on your laws you might to buy or build a run.

I plan on looking for coops on kijiji where the owner states that it is insulated for winter. I plan on having at least two bantams so they need more winter precaution.

I do have bantams and I had small insulated coop but I upgraded to a bigger one (5x10 plus a 11x29 run)and it isn’t insulated, I’ll see this winter how it is going to be...

My bantams did fine without insulation even during the three week -30 cold spell last winter. They fared better than my larger birds actually. (Oegb, cochin & silkie )
