Hi From Central Alberta!!
I am kind of new to BYC and super new to posting on a forum, but I am lovin it so far!!!
So far we have 3 ducks (maybe if i figure out how to post pics, you guys can help me figure out what they are!!) 4 SLW pullets, 4 light brahma pullets, 1 partridge dorking (too cute) and 5 Americanas. I still have a list of heritage breeds that I was to aquire!! I am slowly but surely going to be restoring a very old building on my property. I am guessing it was originally a house, then converted to a barn, and will now become a chicken coop! My plan is to raise tri-purpose birds
pets/eggs/meat. I will be culling animals that are not true to the breed standards if I can help from becoming attached~!
My wife and I have a backyard flock of chicken in Laval, Quebec (just north of Montreal).
We actually have 6 adult Bovan Brown hens and 13 fourteen week-old youngsters (4 RIR, 2 Welsummer, 2 Light Sussex, 1 Cuckoo Maran, 1 BO, 1 EE, 1 Ameraucana and 1 Black Jersey Giant).
We are always interested in exchanging, buying or selling, since we want to keep a diversified flock of hens (10 or 12) with 1 or 2 roosters. (We actually keep our 5 little roosters in a nice place under our house between 9 PM and 8 AM the next morning, to avoid trouble with our neighbors.)
My in laws are located in St Hermas ....close to Lachute....
Going to PQ this week to Lac Du Cerf !!!
Thats funny about your Roo's ...what we will do to have chickens....no one understands you like us chicken addicts...
I am in Caledon Ontario, just over an hour north of Toronto. Big backyard opening onto corn fields, farmland. Can be pretty cold here. Would love to hear the Canadian experience ! I just started building my first coop for about 9 egg layers. Since I am not planning to eat them I'd like to find different types.
