Hi all: I'm from the Bruce Peninsula (just north of Lion's Head) in Ontario. I see someone else from earlier on (like a year or two ago) who's parents are north of Wiarton.
I got my chicks from Claire Smith just south of Clavering (just south of Wiarton). I believe they get their chicks from the States and I know they often go to the Fur & Feather in Mount Forest. They do sell widely and often advertise "excess" on Kijiji, but if you have specific breeds you want, let me know and I will get you their contact information. They sell rare and hard-to-get breeds.
My chickens are very healthy and doing great. I have 4 Barnevelders (lay dark brown coppery eggs), one cock and 4 hens, and 4 mixed Americaunas (I think they are Easter Eggers, not true Americaunas). Anyways... I love my little flock. Here are the pics of my chicken coop/tractor and a few of my birds.
Manitoba!!!! go Canadians!
currently I am in Wasilla, Ak but if the economy picks up again IF it does in the US we are movin back! Super Excited!!!!! In the meantime while we are living in Wasilla i am starting a small hatchery spring of 2010. So i will save up all the money i make from it.
hey gwen i would love that info too i am in forest ontario and have cottage in southhampton so that is totaly my neck of the woods. i am very interested in getting more rare birds i am new to this and want to try out a few different breeds before i pick 2 or 3 to stick with. it is my plan to be a full time farmer within 5 years and fully organic in 10. i have just bought 50 acres here mostly fields i rent to a cash cropper and about 7 acres of over grown woods. starting once the corn come off this year i will be taking over a min of 5 acres a year and transitioning them.
glad to see so many canadians out there
