Cancer?

Going to vet at 11:00. She's not an avain vet, but she just got out of school and it doesn't bother her to call someone. She has seen a few of my chickens before. I'll post what comes of the visit.

Much better photo. If the lesion is "floating", it's probably not cancer. Tumors have roots. It probably is a cyst or it could be an abscess. Only way to determine what it is would be to make a shallow incision and put some pressure on it to see if you can expel the contents.

If it is an abscess, this would be a necessary aspect of treatment. If you can't bring yourself to do this, perhaps you can locate a vet to do it.

It's troubling that she isn't eating. It's hard to say it's related to the lesion on her neck. The two issues may be simply coincidental.

The neck motions she makes after being fed indicates crop discomfort. Did you determine that her crop was empty this morning?

We're home now. Vet wasn't sure either, only that the lump looked like it wouldn't be a big problem to remove because it didn't feel like it was attached to anything major. She did pull some fluid out of the very hard lump and put it on a slide. As she showed it to me she explained that doodies red and white blood cells looked normal. Then she showed me these round cells I think she said they were tissue cells. Those were in groups she called "sheets". Grouped in bunches all together, very few were alone or next to the "sheets" with the other round cells. She told me in dogs or cats that's a sign of possible cancer. Then we found 2 more on the same side and 1 on the other. She sent pics of the slide to a couple of groups that read slides, said all kind of vets, doctors, etc read them on a volunteer their time doing that. We decided to wait till we hear from them. Said it should be today some time. Doodie has been eating better today and resting a lot but that's ok. I'll let you know when I hear more.
