I always rest my eggs for at least 24 hrs if they have bad detached aircells I will rest them for up to 48 hours.

I smelled a smell so I checked.

Three quitters. One is still a possibility. Judging by size, I know what happened to them... again, my fault.

Boy, my first batch is going really horribly. I've learned a lot at the expense of a lot of chicks. UGH!

I will keep updated on last egg.

That stinks, Mortie! I got a surprise when I just went out and disturbed my broody. There's one pip and possible a second. But the funny thing is that she's been stealing eggs! There are now 11 eggs! I'm pretty sure which are the unfertilized ones from my hens but my markings came off of the fertilized ones so I really can't guarantee I'm right. I'm going to just leave them under her until some hatch. Pretty cool to have 2 hatching simultaneously - one in the coop and one in the incubator. I'm happy to know that I will have 2 chicks so they have each other to grow up with - next will be the question of sex.

Just wondering if I should help it onto its belly? Chirping and flopping, then sleeps for a bit, repeat.

This makes me so nervous!! I am going to be incubating for the very first time for the Easter Hatch-a-long. I am getting shipped eggs that I am splitting with a friend who will incubating half at her house. My incubator (the IncuView Incubator) does not stand eggs up. Eggs lay in it and are turned while laying down. I am thinking what I will do is let the eggs rest upright (fat end up) in a styrofoam egg carton with bottoms cut out (to help with oxygen) and to leave them this way in the incubator for 3 days like that before I take them out to lay them down. Otherwise I'm just so nervous that with them laying down I will have air cell problems?! 

Well once you get them, candle them. Take a look at the air cell to see if you have a detachable or loose. You can refer to my website www.lwbarnhouse.com for an explanation on the difference between the two. I also have two methods on there under the duck tab on hatching. Both these methods work for chickens with the exception you don't sponge the eggs like In the first method.

I'm going to experiment on some detachable I'm determined to find a way to get them to develop. I'll try different methods and let you know which one worked.. I would give them more time on the setting, three days you may not see development. Fourth day would be better..

Edit: It's not going to help me to sit and wait, I'm taking the girls and I to the feed store to get it some friends to get me out of the house.

Nope leave it, he'll be ok, he's got to build up strength. Give him 24 hours to fluffy up. Woooooooo hooooooo the patients paid off...

Oh thank you!! I read on your site that you definitely prefer incubating eggs laying down. That makes me feel better with my incubator being set up how it is. Okay so if I have detached air cells - at what point do I just lay them down? I mean, because they are shipped eggs they will obviously not be only a day or two old. They will be, at most hopefully, 7 days old when I get them. So I don't want to wait on incubating them for too long.
