Candid game cam pix: and the life of my chickens

I love that 2nd pic! The rooster crowing looks like it should be a painting

That guy is a major camera hog, I got at least 8 pictures of just him posing for the camera the other day.

My trap was being tripped, but no catch, so I set up the cam on a piece of fence to keep an eye on it at night.
Beats all the luck, it was SO foggy out there that I didn't catch ANY pictures until morning, even though the cam was at the right angle and I DID catch a possum in the trap! I can't believe the fog was THAT thick, but I guess it was!

I did get some rather CANDID pictures of my roosters again though. My BCM roo (free range) is the main competition with my RIR roo (penned with the ladies) and it seems they do some fence sparring when I'm not looking. I don't blame Red for complaining though, the cam caught BCM sitting in the "spa" with the girls whispering sweet nothins to them through the fence!!!!! LOL

First pic of the morning, talk about FOG, and it's 9am. Usually I start getting daylight pix around 7am.

This is what happened when they hit the fence that was holding the cam up, pretty cool wave effect
HUNT0574.JPG

They broke it up, and the possum objected when BCM roo ran over the top of the trap

I came home and let the possum go. They can't get into my pen so I let 'em live.

Love this thread!

Mind if I ask if you researched any other cameras before deciding on this one? And if so, what criteria are important to look for, etc?

If there's already a thread/threads here on such discussion, would someone be able to point me to it/them? I suck at searching.

I bought a Moultrie one, that quit taking pictures the second time I put it out.
My criteria was pretty simple, IR flash at night and, well, I wanted it to actually WORK.
The Moultrie was supposed to be really nice, but when it crapped out that made the decision so much easier

I've been VERY satisfied with the Bushnell.

Thank you. I'm thinking Christmas present, here!

I, too, am interested in the night-time function. Question (probably a dumb one)--does vegetation blowing in the wind trigger the cam?

No. It's activated by heat sensing IR I think, not motion sensors.
It prints the current temp on the photos, and it activates when it senses a variation in that temp in front of the camera. It works on the contrast between body heat and ambient temps, at least that's how I understood it when I read the user manual (which I promptly lost I'm sure)

ETA: Here it is, it's a PIR sensor. this explains http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passive_infrared_sensor

As
you can imagine, I had a TON of pictures with that possum there in the cage half the day. I deleted about 800 boring random pix

If you buy one for a present - it takes 8 AA batteries, and up to a 16GB SD card --- mine is 2GB and it holds about 1600 high res pix, which is enough for me since I check my camera every day or so, but if you left it out in the woods for a week you might need more capacity - I don't know. Remember toys are no fun without batteries and memory cards so don't forget to include them!!
