Lani swam up to the surface of the ocean and walked up the beach, her bare toes digging into the sand. She then headed toward the forest, but hesitated. She was a creature of the sun and wide open oceans, not of this shadowy area where the trees pressed close on either side. She shook her head to dispel her fears and stepped into the wood. It actually wasn't that bad, once you entered, with the soft green light from the sun drifting through the canopy. She began to head toward the small clearing she had discovered the day before, where she had sat on a soft bed of moss and watched the birds sing overhead. As she approached, she heard voices. Pausing, she darted behind a tree and peered into the clearing. But she was unaccustomed to the vines covering the forest floor; tripping, she fell down right into the clearing, her white-blue hair sticking out like a sore thumb.
