candling just before hatching

I also wish I knew more of the terminology. It is hard to understand when people use chic terms lol.

pipped is when the chick/duckling or whatever makes a small hole in the egg shell. Internally pipped means the bird has entered the air cell and should be trying to break the shell fairly soon.

Oh so I should have helped them if they didn't hatch on 24 hours. I guess they died because of it. I have one egg left and it has pipped and is pecking away. But I am wagering to say it has also been 24 hours. :-(. Should I help this last one. I don't see any movement in the others.

Thank you for the terminology post. I am now concerned that all 3 piped. Now I only hear pecking left in one egg. I feel like a horrible bird mommy. I cried my eyes out. I should have read up a little more when I got them. How long should I let the final one peck and be pipped before I help him out. I finally got my humidity up to 54% but I can't get it up any higher without sitting my egg on a wet towel and I know that is a no no. So what should I do now. Thanks in advance

These are duck eggs correct? If so then they should be ok for up to 48 hours after external pip for hatching. Don't assist unless you absolutely feel you must because often people panic and help before they should, causing death of hatchling.

I am so happy but still scared. My egg has piped a hole and I can see the beak. It's beak is opening and closing but it hasn't unzipped. I am worried because the hole is pretty big and it has piped in more than one spot. Should I worry or assist. I don't want to do anything to hurt my baby but I don't want to loose it either. I have placed paper towels around the entire inside of the bottom of the incubator but my humidity won't go past 68. Is there anything else I can do?

Also it has piped on the very top next to the air sac. Is that a normal spot or does it normally pip on the side?
