Candling Marathon: Sore back, fried brain, freaked eyes...

Actually, in light-colored eggs, I can see good veins at 3 days.

I didn't read any replies, but here's my thought:

#1 Wait. Your nose ought to give you fair warning before anything explodes, so don't risk pulling eggs prior to BEING CERTAIN!!

#2 Wait.

#3 Wait.

#4 Know that if your temps are even a bit low, or if you aren't using an auto-turner, the initial blood vessel development can be clustered and look like a blood ring if you have brown eggs or if your room isn't dark enough, or if you candle early (I think day 7 is just a curiosity candle, and one needs to...you guessed it: WAIT!)

#5 Make real determinations at day 14 or later unless you need the space.

Good luck!

thanks again, all.

Last night i re-checked several of the '?' eggs and they indeed all seem fertile from the movement i am pretty sure i saw. The 'dark' is not a free floating mass, that is for sure.

I just can't figure out why the embryos seem to be so developed at just day 7/8. Most of them seem to have reached the dark blob phase and not much veining is visible...............
Yet bator temps were set to 99.5 by the time eggs were set and have remained pretty good

I definitely second checking the batteries, I experienced this lastnight and realized I couldn't see not being my eyes were going buggy, but because my light was really not working well at all, after changing them this morning it's made a huge difference!

Good luck!!!

One incubator is warmer than it says. Check my incubation cheat sheet in my signature to see what I use and the reason. Cheap, but accurate.

I have used several of your hints! Thanks for all the information on your site! Great wealth of knowledge. I purchased several of the wet bulb thermometers from walmart and LOVE them. 1 was a dud, but for the price you can't beat them. Also love the hint on the sand in the heated bowl. I will be putting that to use soon!
