I have a super broody Australorp sitting on 7 assorted eggs that I got from a farmer friend. She's now at day 12 so I'd like to candle them, but she's taking this sitting business very seriously, so accessing the eggs without being attacked is tricky.

She gets off the nest once every one or two days, so I'd like to get in there to candle while she's off the nest, but obviously then I have no darkness to candle them. So how do you candle in daylight? I tried searching solutions like a box with a viewing hole or something similar, but can't come up with anything. Any suggestions? Do I really need to candle?

I had no problem canceling my broody's eggs, even during daylight. The new, powerful led flashlights are extremely bright, 150-200 lumens happened to be the one I used, but there are even more powerful lights available.

Thanks for the response. I just tried with an led flashlight, but not sure of the wattage. Couldn't see a darn thing.
