CANDLING--- what am I seeing in my eggs??

ms.cluckling :

It is day 3 of incubating, and I dont know what I'm seeing...
There's a large orangey circle inside some eggs, and it kind of swishes from side to side... Its in the middle(if you put the egg on its side), but only on one side. For example, I have that particular egg (egg E) marked E on one side and e on the other. So, there's a circle showing one side E, but it's pretty clear on side e...
Does that make sense??? I think I'm confusing myself, so I can imagine what I'm doing to you...

If you know what I'm talking about, or have any experience (if your eggs looked the same), any help is appreciated!

Thanks so much

PS, from reading I think what I'm seeing is a "blood-island," but I'm not sure... (I'm new at this--obviously) thanks again!!

Good garden o' peas and I thought I was impatient. IMO , day three is to early to be candleing eggs. You should wait til day 7 at least or if you can control yourself , day 14.

Hope all goes well

By day nineteen all the eggs should be full of chick....if they have already internally pipped they will fill up even the aircell space. By now they should be left alone and no more candling.

Too much candling = bad hatch.

It's hard to resist the temptation, but the more you handle them the less likely they are to hatch, especially in the first week.

Thank you everyone for putting up with us newbies at hatching.

I was freaking out over mine last night big time. Someone nicely told me to sit on my hands. So I am. As hard as it is to do I will do it. Only cause it is best for the babies. Thanks again everyone. Will post pics.

we put them in on the 31st of dec. We got some on thurs and the rest on friday morning. So they are 5 days old now

I am heartbroken.
ANd before you think that I'm a big wimp, remember that i've never done this before, and this is REALLY big for me...

This is the exact reason that I stopped candling so much. Now I candle at 4-5 days and again at day 18 when I stop turning. Once you kill a chick once by dropping a developing embryo, it stays with you. I'm so sorry this happened to you...

If you have 4 days to go, I really hope you post pictures. I mean the first little hole and everything! Way too often I watch these egg hatch countdowns and no one ever posts the whole event!
