Canine Sebaceous Cyst

:gig Funny how they "know" as soon as you touch that door, thankfully she's in her bag so I never have to drag her in ... My Mom's 78# Shepard/Lab mix would hit the brakes. Vet offices need to put in those automatic doors for entering, exiting can be manuel ;)

Ok, Dr appreciated all the homework we did :hugs Mia has a bacterial infection, was given a Convenia injection (antibiotic, lasting 14days). He said I could get the Gentacalm if I wanted but he prefer not to due to the affects it has on the kidneys when used too often.

He suggested I could spot bathe her with "PhytoVet CK Shampoo" which I may be returning as I found a spray on Amazon, why spot bathe when I can spot treat. Will call in the morning to ask.

He did say the "coal/tar" shampoo would be drying causing more flaking. I forgot to show him the pic on my phone ... "Veterinary Formula Clinical Care Antiparasitic & Antiseborheic Medicated Shampoo" treating skin scaling caused by seborrhea, helps relieve parasitic infections, hydrating and anti fungal. I did read, thank you @Texas Kiki seborrhea comes in two types ... dry/seborrhea sicca and oily/seborrhea oleosa ... sometimes a combination of the two. Will call the office or stop by tomorrow to check with him.

We'll give it 2wks and see where this treatment goes :fl I was good with the Witch Hazel & the shampoo for seborrhea I'm using but that third issue Friday (crusty, raw skin) was time for antibiotics. Sorry so lengthy but again want to thank you all for all your research and support :hugs

Good to hear you have a plan. I have used those convenia injections too. They don't seem to work past 5 days for my dogs. I prefer pills personally, so if you see improvements, than it stops be aware that antibiotic doesn't always do as they say it does, at least in my experiences. I have tried it on 3 different dogs with the same results. I will not use it again personally.

@oldhenlikesdogs Thank you for your heads up, didn't know there were pills. Will see how the injection works, otherwise will as for the pills. Which would you not use, the injection and/or pills?
I'm not sure if that antibiotic comes in a pill form. It is a newer antibiotic that I haven't had any good results from except in my cat. My dogs don't respond to it as well as they respond to other antibiotics like amoxicillin, or doxycycline.

My one dog had an anal gland abscess last year and they initially gave that convenia shot. It didn't do anything, and 2 weeks later I put her on doxycycline and it healed up quickly.

So if you don't see an improvement, it may be that antibiotic. I'm not a vet, just someone with 6 dogs that is at the vet a lot. Luckily they live just down the road from me.

UPDATE: Haven't used the shampoo the Vet gave, intend to return it tomorrow. I left a message for him asking about using the "Antibacterial Chlorhexidine Spray" having the same ingredients I ordered, haven't heard back

I have been using Vetericyn Gel on the crusty red sores, it's healed and looking good. Continuing with the Witch Hazel application on the cyst & bathing with the "Antiparasitic & Antiseborrheic Medicated Shampoo, prolonging the time between shampoos. There's still flaking but looks less, she don't smell & not scratching.

Either the Convenia injection is helping, or maybe the combination. Main thing she's not so miserable. She'll be starting on Welactin Omega 3 tomorrow :fl
