Canker and swallen chicken face :(

I stopped the metronidazole and now I'm treating with just Nystatin, the anit-fungal, and it seems like she might be getting better, hardly any pus today. If she doesn't continue to get better, I'll probably start her on either Clavamox or Baytril.

Hope yours gets better and thanks for the update.

It's powdered Nystatin and it's sold without a prescription for pigeons as Medistatin. Don't laugh, but I tried mixing it with Miconazole cream and then I stick that in her mouth and on the affected area. Each day there seems to be less of that smelly, yellow pus.

Not sure where we bought it last time, but you'll find lots of places if you do s search for Medistatin. If you live in Canada, I think you can get Diflucan over the counter, which is also an anti-fungal.

She is not doing that well today, I found more of the yellow/gray stuff inside her beak and took it out. Then squirted more Flagyl in her mouth and then gave her a shot. She probably would hatw me by now if birds could hate.

Right side of her face is still swollen looks more red and almost like abscess. I cleaned skin with alcohol and stuck needle through it but there was no puss. She is on day 2 of tetracycline and second round of flagyl. Anyone else had experience with abscesses?

Chicken pus is not like pus in mammals, it's like a firm cheese, not liquid, so that why you couldn't get any with the needle. How big is the swelling? Does the pus keep coming back in the mouth?

I never saw any pus, but I figured since it looked like abscess i try to see if I can drain it. She is behavig better today, aside from little detail that i forgot not to give her shot in leg muscle so she was limping this morning. I can't decide if I should continue tetracycline, but dont want to stop cause i dont want to create some antibiotic resistant bacteria.:(
