Our 3 year old hen, Holly, has yellow 'gunk' in her mouth. She is still eating and drinking normally but the yellow stuff has grown bigger over the last few weeks. Is there anyway to reduce or get rid of it? I've seen some people saying that garlic extract and ACV helps. She has been having ACV in her water but it hasn't helped so far.

Does it smell bad? Do you have a picture where it shows up? Canker, a protozoan infection, can look like wet fowl pox. Have you seen any dry fowl pox scabs on your chickens recently? If it is canker, it is a disease that can spread to your whole flock. Treatments include metronidazole, ronidazole, acidifed copper sulfate, and some choose to cull affected birds. There have been more threads about acidified copper sulfate treatment here on BYC lately, since antibiotics are hard to get and require long egg withdrawal times. Here it is available at a good price, and dosage is 1/4 tsp per gallon of water:

Here is an article about canker:

It does not smell at all and there are no dry fowl pox scabs on her. I will try to get a picture soon.
All of our chickens drink out of the same waterer so can we put the acidified copper sulphate in there or should we give it to her separately ?
