I'm sure one day our canning techniques won't be safe enough either and the government will come along and shut Ball/Kerr down... and take away our canners!!!

I use this method with beeswax but only for personal things. Like tha above person with her commercial jars - you can do it to things like relishes, chutneys and jams - stuff that doesn't really go 'off' as much as, well, a can of soup.

But again, personal use. I am proper with anything I give away. (unless it has a strict friend to friend warning of, "This is not sealed properly so eat it within 2-3 weeks or I will kill you myself")
