CANNOT catch the raccoon!!

I have heard from every single "old timer" I know that Marshmallows work. I like this one, because I have cats, and using pretty much anything meaty would only trap THEM. lol

Re: the human scent: A good rinse in vinegar will help with that. Although, seeing as they will dig through trash cans and places that have human scent on them, I doubt that's really an issue.

If you can set the trap in the alley way and funnel the animal into the trap it WILL work I do it a lot just block down the way it can go force it into the trap

Cheap canned cat food from the grocery store has always worked for me. I never bothered with masking my scent. I live trapped and shot close to thirty coons when they were getting into our sweet corn last year! I use chicken flavored cat food ( imagine that;) ) and it works great.

Dig a hole under the trap. Dig it deep enough that the coon has to really reach for it. He will set the trap.

Many coons are used to live traps and we switched to this method and catch a TON of coons. We anchor our traps with stakes or a very heavy log so the coon cant feel it move as well. If you just set it on the ground, many times the movement will have them back out of the trap. Human scent doesnt really bother a coon thats raiding a hen house, however if he figures out a trap he will pay attention the next trip through! cat food, sardines, marshmellows all work, but remember, he is there for chickens so give him a some!

We put the trap in the pop door on the chicken coop, so that when he went into get the eggs or chickens, he walked straight into the trap. Caught three very large coons this way
