Can't eat chicken.

OMG I am the exact same way! I went months without eating chicken, and just had my first free-range and organic local chicken to eat this past weekend

As long as I know they were treated with respect and not caged and crowded only to be slaughtered, I think I can deal with that... But you are not alone!

As a boy, we raised pigs as well. Sure, it was "interesting" to eat the bacon/ham/sausage at the first. Same with beef and veal. Some kids even have difficulty eating the first fish they just caught. It's all human nature.

In the modern world we are detached farther and farther from our food source. We'd rather have the psychological buffer and eat the "unknown", wrapped in plastic or picked up in a box at the drive up window.

It's all very sad, isn't it? I wish we could raise our own chickens to slaughter, but I am so soft hearted.

I get it from my father. He had such a hard time growing up on a farm and slaughtering the chickens with his father.

I blame it on being a girl.. I let my emotional side come before my practical side

Since I got my girls in September I've gone vegetarian apart from deep sea fish tho I plan to stop eating fish at a later date asap. Have eaten free range chicken for years and as already had some in freezer decided I would use it up rather than give to the dogs but found I didn't enjoy it at all so now the dogs will get what's left in freezer.

For a good while after my husband and I got chickens, my mom wouldn't eat the extra eggs we'd give her. Now she has her own chickens and thinks it's the greatest thing to have fresh scrambled eggs whenever she wants. I butchered my own chickens for the first time this summer with my dad's help and ate one of them the same day. I find it harder to thin seedlings in the garden than accept the fact that my chickens become dinner. My mom still won't eat our chickens, though, even when I offered to cook it and invite my parents to dinner!

Well, as a boy, I raised 200-300 "fryers" for my folks from the age of 8, I think. I did all the head chopping too. Passed them to my dad who did the dipping in boiling water, everyone plucked, my mom did the cutting.

I can tell you for certain that, on butchering days, as an 8 year old, fried chicken was the last thing on my menu wish list.

I hear you Fred. I remember when my dad butchered my 2 pigs (hey, they were my buddys) and the stench of boiling pig went all teh way up our 5 story home. To this day I cannot eat pork. Just cannot stand the smell.
