ive tried everything to keep the humidity btwn 55-60 and cant seem to get it right its either too low or too high im checking it like every 5 minutes and normally its too low and i have a cup of water and a sponge in there the temp is steady at 100 and hasnt moved. i only have one egg in there sorta like a test run bc its my first time and i didnt want to kill all of my eggs and just going to give them back to my hen. I AM PULLING MY HAIR OUT!!! i just cant seem to get it right!!! how long can a egg stang to be in to low or too high humidity before it damages it??

Humidity is important but you can also drive yourself nuts worrying about it and making constant adjustments. I just hatched my first batch of eggs and am very pleased... got 29 chicks from 34 eggs. I don't have any way of checking humidity (no hygrometer) and so I played it by ear. Stuff I read said it was probably better to have a little bit too little than too much humidity during the first 18 days, and I am living near water, so I filled area that they said to fill in instructions that came with my bator and never opened the lid again until I candelled at one week. Then I added a little two more times. I got pretty worried when I went to take the eggs out of the turner at 19 days and the water cup was totally dry. I figured I wouldn't get a single chick, but I went ahead and put in the water they recommended for the last few days and got 29 chicks. The 5 that didn't hatch were fully formed, but for whatever reason didn't make it out. Anyway, I am about to start another set of eggs and don't intend to change anything. My feeling at the moment is that it is important to just leave them alone as much as possible. For that reason, I think an automatic turner is a big plus because otherwise you are opening the incubator three times a day or more for those first 18 days. Anyway, that's my two cents worth. It may be that I am just lucky to live in a climate that is moist and that makes it a heck of a lot easier that in some hot dry place.

ok ill try to stop worryin i only have 1 egg n there and i gave the other back to her where she laid it

I struggled with my humidity on my first hatch. Probably didn't help that I was opening the incubator 3-4 times a day to turn the eggs. During those last 3 days of lock down, though, I was able to keep the humidity pretty stable and high with wet sponges. I think I got a great hatch of 22 out of 28 eggs.

Don't stress yourself out about it. It should turn out okay.

i took the cup of water out... and its kinda stablized so i think ill just use the sponge.

It's why when you were shopping incubators last week I suggested that the Brinsea ECO 20 was great because you did not have to open it to turn the eggs... Temps stay the same too because you just don't "need" to open it...

Let it be for a day and it will stabilize. Folks say you can run up to 60% with no appreciable problems...

yes you were the one that was a little rude and told me to spend some "REAL" money... ive lost my job and can not afford that and its all i can do to feed the farm i have now. i will do the best that i can i only have one egg in there and if it hatches fine and if it done fine
