Can't sell Quail,Pheasant, Turkeys and now ducks and geese in Florida?

Hi
Tonya, I am considering getting quail. My husband said "don't you need a licensee for that?" I want to keep them for eggs, meat and exhibition. I live in Grand Junction. I was going to call DOW on Monday..I am glad I found your post! Is there anything that you can share with me regarding what I need to do to keep less than a dozen Cotunrix?

I'm not sure you'll get a response since this is such an old thread. Do you get any info on DOW?

I'm debating what to do - I have less than 50 but I would like to sell as well. The problem is that I'm limited in my city to three pets today, including birds kept outdoors. I'm not sure if the permit gets me around that, I think probably not. I hate to call and be "on the radar" but I would like to sell legally.

Hi,
While volunteering at the So. Florida fair for the poultry club. a FWC warden came in and informed everyone that ALL barnyard fowl EXCEPT chickens, Pekin duck and Muscovies required a 50.00 annual game farm permit AND we couldn't sell any of these or eggs to anyone that they themselves didn't have a permit.
This includes all domesticated geese, ducks, quail, pheasant (peafowl too) and turkeys.
I've scoured the FWC website and see only things pertaining to Migratory birds. Not domesticated birds..
What about button quail and coturnix that they are selling locally to the public in feed stores and pet shops?
The same warden is supposed to come to our clubs March meeting and give us the state statutes and why it is. She did say something about barnyard ducks, geese and turkeys being allowed to run loose and breeding with native wildlife.. (jeez, My Embden certainly goes out of his way to find a "Florida goose.. are there any?)
My button quail would NEVER be able to catch any of our local Bob whites.. This is frustrating.
I'm thinking this is another ploy to get more money out of people that are daily losing more rights as we speak.
I understand that ifyou are breeding and selling quail, pheasant, peafowl, and migratory waterfowl, you have to have a game farm liscence..but to just buy one or a few? WTH?

I actually applied for a captive wildlife permite through FWC and was turnded down because the FWC officer stated my Geese were a domestic Breed and was reembursed for my application fee. Also if you read the FWC website states that as long as you have less than 100 qual you dont need a captive wildlife permit. But just to be safe I asked for a writtent statment from the FWC pertaining to domestic waterfowl. I imagine anyone wanting to keep domestic breed turkeys should do the same just to be on the safe side.

Just so you know, this thread is almost 13 years old and the person to whom you replied hasn't been active on this site since December, 2013. I doubt you're going to get a response from them.
