Can't sell Quail,Pheasant, Turkeys and now ducks and geese in Florida?

This I fear the reason we are losing certain rights daily.. UNLESS we pay up..
I don't plan on doing anything except applying for the game farm lic and seeing what the Game warden has to say on the 25th. I'll keep everyone posted

Actually They Have Slacked Up On The Gamebird Regs... 2 Yrs Ago Or So You Had To Have A Licence To Even Posess A Gamebird Of Any Type (yes That Includes Coturnix And Buttons In Florida) They Changed It And Now You Can Have Up To 50 For Personal Use

BUT THEY STILL HAVE A HARD ON FOR MALLARDS... BY LAW YOU CANT EVEN BUY 1 WITHOUT PERMIT IN HAND. IF THEY CATCH YOU WITH 1 AND NO PERMIT IT GETS UGLY QUICK, AND GOD FORBID IF ITS FREE RANGING! SOMETHING LIKE $192.50 PER BIRD??? AND HE WILL WRITE THE VIOLATION AS HE WATCHES YOU BURY THE DEAD CARCASS. (OR HE WILL ARREST YOU THEN KILL IT HIMSELF-- IF YOU'RE NICE AND COOPERATE YOU GET TO CHOOSE, IF NOT THE GAME WARDEN CHOOSES

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you after the meeting . Basically, The FWC states, and it is in writing in the mallard rule..

" for the purposes of this section, "Mallard" includes ALL Anas Platyrhynchos and fertile hybrids thereof except the white variety of Anas PlatyRhynchos commonly known as Pekin ducks.
Most Domestc ducks are memebrs of the Platyrhynchos domesticus, so ALL provisions of this rule apply. However, this rule does not apply to Pekin ducks, Muscovy ducks(Cairina Moschata) or any other species that is NOT Anas Platyrhynchos."
She also stated that ONLY white turkeys and white geese are exempt from permitting requirements.. This is sickening to me..

They are stating that ALL domesticated ducks came from Mallards and because Mallards are strongly regulated so too should all other domesticated ducks..

Basically,
She states that because of the way this is written. ALL ducks other than these 2 are considered game and you have to have a game farm permit to own them..
Oh, after reviewing the class three permit exemptions, I did find out that button quail are exempt from permitting/liscenses and can be sold like parakeets or gerbils as cage animals/pets
So, at least thats a plus.. You can buy and sell Button's(Chinese Painted quail) without a permit!

The worst thing, I forgot to add..
She nailed a nearby neighbor for having "Mallards" They were 10 pound plus Rouens. She MADE them put them ALIVE in the freezer or kill them in front of her. She is one sick individual and the neighbor is filing a serious complaint against her and has obtained a lawyer. Her KIDS were there!!!!

She is sick, all right.

Dont they have certain numbers of days to either get a permit or go to court to get it appealed?

What really would happen if they do find someone with mallards??

I'm confused. What specifically does all this have to do with turkeys in Florida? They've been a common domestic species since before the American revolution.

I could understand regulating the various "wild" subspecies such as Eastern Wild, Osceola, and so on, but does this apply to Standard Bronze, White Holland, Bourbon Red, White Midget and the others?

There is very valid reasoning behind the law even if it is not enforced with the reasoning in mind.

Mallards are illegal without a permit because they want to ensure that the mallards owned are penned properly to prevent genetic hybridization with the native and threatened Florida Mottled Duck. The Mallards are considered exotic and depending on which scientists you ask, are also considered invasive. The wild Mallard ducks are not a problem because they only overwinter in florida. The permanent pet, released pet, farm mallards are here year round and because of that are here during the breeding season.

As someone in natural resource and conservation as a profession; please please please follow state law regarding loose/unpenned, exotic, or otherwise controlled wildlife. While the gamewardens and officers are not always up on the reasoning, for most wildlife species there is a scientific reason behind its control.

Edit: Just wanted to add: Most people on here are very knowledgeable about their birds and if you think your game warden/local official/police officer is incorrectly identifying your birds or forcing you "follow" a law that is non-existent: File a complaint or call your local Fish and Wildlife office. But if you are housing the illegal species, please ask them to explain why it is illegal (or find someone who can) and then comply.

UNFORTUNATELY, I COULD HAVE TOLD YOU THEY WOULD DO THAT... AND THEY WILL WRITE VIOLATIONS FOR EACH AND EVERY 1 YOU HAVE WHILE YOU ARE "DISPATCHING THEM" LAST I HEARD IT WAS $192.50 A BIRD. AND I DONT RECOMMEND REFUSING TO DISPATCH THEM EITHER... THE CASE I KNOW OF PERSONALLY TRIED THAT... YEAH DIDNT WORK OUT SO WELL... THAT INDIVIDUAL GOT TO WATCH THE WARDEN DISPATCH THEM FROM THE BACK OF A SQUAD CAR WHILE MODELING THE MOST LOVELY GUN-METAL BRACELET SET YOU COULD EVER IMAGINE
