Can't wait for my chickens to arrive in April

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Black Australorps are my favorite standard breed. I've raised them for years (along with dozens of other breeds) and they are extremely hardy, calm and gentle (my children, and now my granddaughter, made lap pets of them), and the best layers of the standard, brown egg laying breeds. I'm sure you will love the Australorps when they arrive. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Australorps.

You have picked a very good breed. Australorps are hardy and excellent layers, with nice temperaments. You can share pics and stories of your flock in the Pictures & Stories of My Chickens section when the time comes, but the coop pics will fit in the Coop & Run - Design, Construction, & Maintenance forum section. Enjoy the site!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Australorps are a wonderful breed to keep. My Aussies are such love hounds. They love to sit on my lap, beg for attention and follow me around like drooling puppies looking for love. Just spend a lot of time with them as babies, get them out on the living room floor around a week old and do this every day. They will gravitate to your lap and this will create that lap loving bond. You will never get them to stay away from you. LOL

Enjoy this new journey you are on! If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

I'm getting 3 golden comets, and yours sound like there going to be great pets.

Golden Comet is one of a number of labels under which some hatcheries market their Red Sex Links, which are produced by crossing a red gene rooster with a silver gene hen. Not only can the resulting offspring be sexed by color at hatching but they are egg laying machines, outlaying either parent breed. It's one of the interesting quirks of hybridization. You should get loads of eggs from those three girls.)
