I didn't really think they would start laying for a few more weeks (they are almost 18 weeks) but I got a light blue egg today. I saw one of my EE's checking out the nesting boxes a couple of days ago so I am pretty sure it was her. Unfortunately she laid it in the run instead of the fancy nesting boxes my husband built. I had ceramic eggs in a couple of the boxes and she moved one. I have a feeling we will end up taking the artificial turf with a roll out and just put in straw. I am glad we only built 4 boxes and waited to see if they liked them. It is going to be very hard to wait a few hours to get home and see it :woot

The first two days my RIR layed, she dropped her egg right in the middle of the yard! Day 3 she got it in the coop but still hasn't made her way into the nesting box. I'm sure she will figure out your nesting box!

Good luck and congrats!

Well my husband is not the best judge of color. It looks more mint green to me and it is a perfect tiny egg. Here's a pic

When they start laying, they have to figure out the nesting boxes unless they have older hens to emulate. Then, you'll find that regardless of the number of boxes you have, they will all want to lay in the SAME one! I've had up to four hens sitting crossways on top of each other laying in "The Box" at the same time! Others would lay right next to the box since they couldn't fit in with all the others. There are other boxes available, but as long as they lay in the coop, I'm fine with it.
