Well, it is day 7 today so we candled our 15 lavender ameraucana eggs (bantam) Due to shipping and incubator problems we only have 3 viable eggs. There were 4 bloodrings and the rest were clear. The kids were really disappointed (so am I) - really hoping these three make it! I need to find some bantam eggs close by - thinking of putting a few more in the bator so we get a few more chicks... I just can't afford to waste another $35 bucks on eggs that may well not make it. This is the first hatch that I have had so few surviving - but then I have had some horrid incubator troubles in the first few days. Ended up having to move the eggs to a different bator which seems to be much more stable. Not sure what to do ... odds are good that not all of these eggs are going to hatch...don't want to end up with just one to add to our two hens - hard to get a new one integrated especially when they are the minority! I had been holding out hope that Cleopatra would decide to go broody again but she has instead opted for a major moult! No way she'll be laying for weeks never mind going broody! I had really hoped to increase our numbers for the winter - guess we'll see what happens. Here's hoping the remaining three eggs make it!
