Maybe "their value" is a strong factor here? I am new to chickens, I have to admit, but this would be the last factor to take into consideration. They are ALL equally "valuable" and dear to me, whether they eat out of my hand or not. Sure I have my favourites (with whom in turn I'm a favourite, as it goes both ways really and most often begins on their side), but when it comes to treatment, I try my best not to discriminate and do what can be done for everyone, "valuable" or not. Cos I wouldn't want anyone to judge on how "valuable" or amiable I am when I need help.
If the original poster is prepared and willing to undertake caring for this animal, I'd say go for it. There are always risks in life and it might not work, but at least you'll know you've done your best and didn't just discard someone who needed your help. Sorry I can't give any advice but I appreciate your desire to help.
