CAROLINA CHICKENSTOCK FALL 2012

Just wanter to say THANK YOU to ALL of you who take the time to put this CHicken swap together, Another very successful one on the books.

The weather was fabulous, many beautiful birds, and I enjoyed putting names to faces of those who have chated on here.

Thank You to all who bought our birds. I hope they all do well and you enjoy them.

Yes, "on a good note," most folks treat their chickens in a humane manner but what about these very chickens you write about? The one's caged without water? Where are they right NOW? What did they go home to?
Something should have been done for them at the swap if they were suffering.
Perhaps at the next Carolina Chickenstock more should be said/advertised in advance regarding folks showing up with chickens caged in inhumane and unhealthy ways.
They will be asked to leave IMMEDIATELY.
That may help prevent some of these sad situations even if it doesn't address the entire problem.
If they know they will not get away with it at a chicken swap.
That other folks will not stand by.

I'd say that the percentage of inhumane was smaller at this swap. But I agree that maybe it should be posted that the organizers have the right to ask anyone not complying with basic care to leave. Most of the folks I met/saw were taking very good care of their chickens and I thought the turn out was great, excellent raffle items and I ended up with three new girls for my roosters, two serama and one d'uccle. Thanks to all those who put many many hours into planning this event. It is greatly appreciated. I met some great folks and one 11 yr old who is really into chickens and their proper care....education of the next generation really works and it was great meeting Tanner and his grandparents.

Thanks again to all.

While my goal was not to point out a problem, I don't want this thread to go toward the negative. This was a family affair that took a lot of time to organize. There were smiling faces all over the place, and I got to see real Jersey Giants! And those Crested Ducks were awesome. Took me a while to convince the hubby the ducks were NOT wearing cotton balls on their head.

However, I would like to suggest the creators of Chickenstock to publish a list of specifications on how the poultry should be housed while at the facility. Shade, food and water should be available at all times. The cages should be of size to allow the bird to stand up and turn around without stepping on another bird. I really liked those green cages. Where do they come from?

Anyway, it was really neat to so many folks enjoying themselves! Show us some more of those smiling faces!

Evening everyone! Just want to first thank all of you that came out and made this event the success that it is. As usual I didn't get to chat with everyone the way I would like but it was very nice to see old faces and meet some new ones. We have determined with was the biggest yet, we raised $536 for the United Orpington Club Youth Program!! I have already notified the President Don Chandler and the secretary of the success in getting this program off the ground. Thank you to all who helped make this happen for our future generations of poultry fanciers.

Here are a few shots taken today when we did get a chance.
