Carpeted roost, anyone else do this?

CLEANING ROOSTING POLES: Why not install some windows at the point where the ends of the roostsare near a wall? You'd need the roosts to be removable, so that you could slide them out the window.
Lowe's carries industrial quality brushes, so you can buy a good scrubbing brush, some disinfectant,Thick rubber gloves, and a bucket to save for this duty.

I considered using carpet deep under our run when I read about yours not long ago. But I don't want to clean it up when it starts to rot.
My birds pooped on the perch the very 1st night and several times afterwards too, I definitely wouldn't want to carpet our roost.
I do see how it may come in handy for birds with crooked toes though

I would probably opt for the astroturf because of the ease in washing it... but surely my birds would pick astroturf apart.

Astro turf would be nice since you could bleech it and not ruin it. Also I have never had mites before but can't you use DE or oils to kill them. If that's the case maybe you could use that stuff on the carpeted roost before you get mites. Just my 2 cents

We realize carpet sounded weird, but our is removable and we plan to change carpet out every few months. The birds loved it! Even my Gerttie the gimp was able to get on the roost and stay on. We know it's not for everyone, but we can be removed and new carpet added every three months it will be fine. And it was clean today, in fact my birds must be weird as there roosts are always poop free. Our coop is also pretty darn clean, they do not ever go in there unless to sleep and then the poop board contains most poop. We have 3 boards cut the right size for there roosts this winter, we plan on carpeting all three and putting them away until we need them this winter. ( so we are not carpeting them in deep winter lol) .

update to the carpeted roost, it is the bomb!!! since its so cold here my chickens have a warm roost, have never never pooped on it and its the same as the day I put it in. my girls love it, and I think it keeps there feet warmer since its running 10 and 12 below here. last week over 20 below. my girls love it ! this spring I will change the carpet even though this carpet still looks totally clean. I also plan to put carpeting on my next coop roosts. oh and Gertie can get up and stay up on the roost with her crooked toes since carpet was added. she stays on well now and does not fall.
