Be prepared to hatch/buy a lot of these birds if you dip your toes in the serama pool... they're so addicting!

x2!! I started out with 9 babies and 5 roosters... Sold off all but 1 baby because I thought I wasnt going to get into Serama... 2 months later (August) I hatched out 8 babies from Laura... 2 months (October) later I bought 4 adults (3 boys 1 girl) and 4 babies an hatched out 2 more babies from Laura... 1 month (November) after that I hatched out 8 more babies from SunAngle and brought in 3 boys... 1 month after (december) that I brought back 2 of my original boys!!! After selling some and some passing away.. Im left with 16 with 9 eggs in the incubator and im always looking for more birds!!!

Oooh I will have to do that! I've been checking out the auctions almost every day... I've got the incubating itch pretty bad right now.

By the way, all my babies have huge hard crops tonight. I noticed my smallest one has had a full crop for the past 24 hours. I picked her up and she smelled a little sour...

she's still eating and drinking and pooping and running around all over the place, but I haven't seen her crop any less full since I noticed yesterday morning. My boyfriend suggested that maybe the feed is a little too big and gets backed up, but eventually passes. None of them are acting differently in any way... I hope it's just them chowing down on food because they're growing so fast, but I'm extra paranoid because of what happened last night. I'm going to smash the food up a little better inside of a plastic baggy now (I've been using medicated chick starter smashed with the back of a spoon) and see if that helps. Do you think I should give them soft food until I see their crops empty out a little bit? I have to work tomorrow but I'll come home to check on them at lunch.

Hmmm that is interesting. I have yet to experience that with babies. Grinding up the food will definitely help. What type of bedding are they on? Could they be eating it? Not sure about the soft food, maybe someone else will have advice on that. I would just keep a close eye.

I like to wet my down to make a mash. It's easier than grinding it. Only thing is you have to feed more often, keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't sour, and make small amounts that they can eat in a hour or two. I usually do this for about a week. I also sprinkle the reg. food around and or put a small amount in the plastic lids off of ready made cake icing.

Thanks, Carla. I've been thinking a lot about doing that but things have been so crazy the past few days I've hardly been home so I haven't tried it yet. My coworker's daughter has a staph infection from knee surgery so I've been filling in for her (I normally only work part time). If I'm not working tomorrow I'll try the mash. Might even try it tonight!

I've lost track of weeks so not sure what we're on now. 5 weeks maybe?

The comb and wattles on the little cream/brown chick seems to be more pink and defined than the black/white chick. Laura what do you think? Black/white is a girl and brown/cream is a boy? Or still much to early to even guess?

Time does seem to pass by quickly!!! My guess would be yes, a girl but I would hold out a couple weeks more just in case. I have been fooled before! Amadeus kept me guessing for almost 8 weeks!

They are very pretty

x2!!! Little Cat had me thinking she was a he because her comb was bigger then Liah's (Her hatch mate) an her comb was redder then Liah's... But she's a girl! Her comb stopped growing an Liah's caught up to Cat's.. Cat's is still pinker but she's in no way a roo like I had thought!

Well whatever either of them are I'm keeping them forever! They are both very sweet but the little black/white chick is super sweet. He/she has started running up to the cage door when I come up to it and jumping right into my hands. They were skittish for quite awhile but out of the blue a couple weeks ago the little black/white chick was dust bathing and just stayed there when I opened the door. I put my hand in to pet her thinking she would dart away, but she just laid there and let me pet her. Day after day she became more and more bold with her affection. If only my grown ones I just got would be so friendly!

She's a sweet girl but pecks wayyy too hard when eating... I'm terrified of hand feeding her!

Rachel, your birds are so pretty! My chicks are 2 weeks now and just starting to get feathers in everywhere else... Can't wait to see how they turn out. Mine got weirdly antisocial a few days ago, but I just switched them over to pine pellets from paper towels & shelf liner yesterday and it's turned them into new birds! I thought they were going to kill themselves by getting so stressed out about it initially, but they are loving it now, taking dust baths and scratching around. I have coated chicken wire over the top and when I pull it off, they fly out of the box up onto my hand. So sweet.
