Cat Almost Killed my Showgirl

My bantam Malays when free ranging will activly hunt cats and they are just a foot tall and weigh about four pounds. I wonder what the big ones would do? It's going to be interesting to see when I get some next year.

i don't think i need to go as far as SSS. If he continues skulking around, i will quietly trap him and either get him into a persian rescue or the SPCA. i have a friend who runs a rescue that might be able to help. Now my husband, he is of an entirely different opinion.

My sympathy to everyone who has problems with cats

I have been a little worried about what will happen when we get our chickens, but my husband says we'll put something over the top of the run to keep them out. Our friend who has chickens just a few blocks away says she doesn't have any problems with cats - her hens chase and peck them.

It seems like all the cats in our neighborhood have adopted OUR house as their hangout. Every time I go out to get in the car, 3 or 4 cats run away from our carport. They fight on the sidewalk under our bedroom window! I really don't like cats - they are the only thing I'm officially allergic to.

We've had to barricade our upper story deck in various ways to keep them off - they want to poop in my potting soil container, spray the chairs we sit on, and chase/eat the little birds that have nests in our eaves!

Spraying them with the hose is a good idea

There was a feral cat skulking around here. I let the dog chase it a few times and it has not come back...

Your water might be enough of a deterrent, especially if it's backed up with the Scarecrow now. I know someone who had problems with the neighbor's cat coming into his greenhouse to go to the bathroom. He gave it a heck of a hosing off, and it hasn't come back.

A goose or a big tom turkey might be a good cat deterrent. My turkeys scare the dogs.

Beardedchick - i have a call into code enforcement here to see if we're allowed to have geese or ducks. i also would not mind a big turkey. Those are pretty cool. Question though, would a goose or turkey go after or hurt my chickens when i let them out to free range?

Wisconsinchick - i will ask my neighbor when next i see him. Although i suspect he is fixed. This neighbor has talked about helping to trap and fix feral kittens in the neighborhood, so seems pretty aware of those issues.
