Cat Bit Me?

A male cat will attract a female cat in heat from a very long distance. People ditch cats everywhere and I guarantee there are female cats around even if they are not yours.

Cats can get over stimulated when they are pet. It can happen in neutered or not neutered males.

I would definitely recommend getting all of your cats fixed so that they are not creating more cats with strays. There are so many cats in this world that don't have homes because they're not fixed.

Just to clarify, I never said I wouldn't get my boys neutron. I am well aware of the problem with cats overpopulating. I have found, cared for, and found homes for well over 30 cats over the years, some of which required medical attention and several that I paid to have spayed/neutered.

In my area, there have not been any females since the last ones I owned, which were spayed. I know the possibilities. My cats are inside most of the time. I only meant to inquire about the odd behavior.

Something else dawned on me. It's also possible he was reacting to a scent in your hair, shampoo, conditioner, hair spray etc. Where I used to work we had a shop cat that would go nuts on one of the employees hair, chewing and pulling on it when ever she held her. Only her. We finally figured out it was her hair spray. That cat would chew on plastic bags, too.

Ha, my indoor kitty, Daisy does that too! But instead of plastic bags, she likes foam, and any kind of foam! She’ll chew on it! Also, Instead of hair spray, it’s my shampoo...

I've had my cats for years. All of them are sweet. They go outside and walk along me when I do yard work and take care of the animals. And they are snuggly inside, sometimes jumping into my arms or onto my shoulder (...like a Pikachu.)

Today, my oldest tomcat was in my lap, purring and enjoying some attention- then, without any notable warning, he jumped up, curled around the back of my neck, claws digging into one of my shoulders... and he BIT the back of my neck. It wasn't hard, it didn't draw blood, but I definitely felt teeth.

I immediately pulled him off and put him down, and he's been laying around like a lazy cat ever since.

Perhaps he was having a nightmare. Keep an eye on your wound, it could easily become infected. Cats mouths are incredibly full of bacteria-yes, I know we all have bacteria in our mouths, but cats have extra nasty mouths.

Sounds like he got overstimulated by the petting. Some cats are really sensitive to touch, and will bite as a response. If he's not neutered, I'd recommend that asap. Even neutered/spayed cats can get overstimulated, though. Sometimes it is petting "too long" sometimes location, such as petting on the rump or even just the back, can be the trigger.

I agree with the possibility of the cat being overstimulated but the owner should know their pet unless it was a new pet.

Wound? No, there was no skin broken. Just his mouth and teeth touched but he didn't actually bite down. It was odd.
If he had bitten me, I'd take the proper precautions.

I do know my cat. I give him attention several times a day. (He jumps into my arms when he wants held.) He's never behaved like that before I've had him for years...
