My indoor/outdoor cat always gorges himself on dry food when he comes inside and then throws it up a minute later.
How do I stop this behavior? He is on free feed at the moment but does feeding him once or twice a day really help?

Small meals are a good idea. You could leave food outside so he has more "free feed" access too if it won't attract the wrong kind of crowd to your backyard.

I don’t know if feeding them once or twice a day versus free feed helps or not. If my cats don’t finish their food the dogs will sneak in and finish it for them. I do have one cat was an extremely sensitive stomach though I’m sure you thought of this but have they had any change in food?

We switched him a long time ago. We switched from a feed that used to make him sick every day. I don't remember what it was called.

We had this same problem with our outdoor cat. He slept in the garage at night, and his food was in there. He would vomit all over in the garage.

We moved the food outside on the back patio, and fill the bowl in the morning. He eats his fill first thing, then comes back to it throughout the day. We don't leave the food out at night, because it attracts possum and raccoons. He hasn't had a problem since

Then that’s definitely not the issue. I figured you thought of that already anyway. If he’s gorging and eating more than he needs then I guess that might be causing the problem. About how much does he eat at a time? I had to put my cat on a diet once because she would eat too much and wouldn’t throw up but she was getting quite hefty I switched to giving her a fourth of a cup in the morning only and a fourth of a cup at night only. But she’s a Maine coon so she’s pretty large I guess it depends on the size of your cat. When might have upset stomach I try to give them chicken and rice for a couple meals and it seems to calm the stomach down

I'm not sure the exact amount but he eats ferociously for a minute or two. My guess would be at least a quarter cup at a time.
