I noticed last night one of my outside cats seems to have a broken tail.

She does not move it at all.

While holding her last night, I ran my hand up and down her tail and it does not seem like it causes any pain or bother her at all..

Should I take her to the vet ?

ABSOLUTELY take her to the vet. Is her entire tail limp and can't move? Nerve damage near the base of the tail can easily lead to incontinence since the nerves for the bladder and anus are so close. Not to mention, cats are extraordinary at hiding pain (cats in pain purr to soothe themselves, so purring doesn't equal not hurting). The location of the break likely is causing her a lot of pain.

Just a few weeks ago I accidentally slammed the end of my cat's tail in a door since she is a velcro cat/furry wraith. It ended up dislocated. She needed pain meds from the vet for a few days since it was very sore.

Yes, you should bring her to the vet, If it is broken they might have to amputate it, since it would die off anyway. Good Luck! Keep us informed!

I have a cat to whom the same thing happened. We think his tail was stepped on by a horse and he tried to run off.

I did take him to the vet right away of course and she said nerve damage at the base and gave me pain meds for him. The nerve damage eventually repaired itself and his tail works just fine now, however the tip of his tail did end up being broken as well and that had to come off. His tail is slightly abbreviated now but otherwise no worse for wear.

And he no longer sits down in the vicinity of the horses.

My dads cat had his tail shut in a car door by the previous owner. They never took him to the vet or anything and he had a permanet kink in his tail all his life. Never seemed to pother him though.
