Oh, this thread is priceless. Cats and dogs with Christmas trees. These are the things I have learned over the years.

Any ornament down low is in danger of being knocked off by either a dog's tail or a playful cat. The cats like the shiny ornaments, the dogs tend to pluck off the ones that are little stuffed animal sorts.

Keep a spray bottle with a long range in the room set on "stream" to blast the cats any time they get close to the tree. My cats now know that the tree is off limits. They look at me before touching anything and mostly mess with it when I am not in the room. Somehow though the spray bottle has made it more of a game, like they dare each other to go swat an ornament and run and hide behind a piece of furniture before I can blast them with cold water.

Lastly, the tree is fun to climb.
One night I was awoken by a strange noise. It didn't take me long to deduce that the cat was messing with my Christmas tree. I found the cat all the way at the very top of the tree, stuck, she had the lights somehow wrapped all around her middle and she was totally trapped in the tree and not happy about it. I had to pull the angry cat out of the tree tangled in lights without pulling down everything! It's hilarious in retrospect, but I was livid at the time.

I can't believe I've been missing out on this thread! Great stories about the little "darlings" and trees

We have 3 indoor cats. One cat totally ignores the tree, one climbs up to the upper part to sleep in and one cat may or may not play El Destructo with the ornaments, depending on what other trouble he can get into.

No tinsel or breakable ornaments for us. We now have wooden, plastic and metal decorations.

Welcome!!! :wee

Hi Roomy!

I was telling DH about the pallet tree (can't remember who posted that) and he thought that was a great idea. Don't think it will happen this holiday but we're definitely keeping it in mind for next year!

Fun thread :D

:frow The wood tree is Shaws masterpiece. So far so good here with the tree, but its not decorated yet, so will see. :fl It seems to be the moving ice skaters in the mini Christmas village that's really peaked their interest. I'll see if I can get a picture of them stalking it. :lau

Yes, a picture please! I've always wanted on of those little Christmas villages but with 3 cats, don't think that would last long.
