A few months ago we were having a terrible problem with squirrels getting into our chicken feeder. I was seeing 5-6 squirrels at a time like it was a buffet. We decided to get an outdoor kitten to group up with the chickens, so he wouldn't bother them but would do some damage to the squirrel population. Enter Boogie, my 4 month old black male kitty. We got him at 8 weeks and introduced him to the chickens slowly. He now sort of thinks he's a chicken. He eats snack with them, he sleeps on top of the run of my smaller chicks- but today takes the cake. It's raining, so I run outside to check the nest boxes (my older chickens have yet to lay) and who do I find curled up in a nest box sleeping? Boogie didn't make any move to leave either, just meowed, stretched and returned to his comfy position.
I can't shut up the coop, the chickens won't have a place to lay. Can't lock the cat up during the day, the squirrels will return. I have 6 large nest boxes- should they share?
