Then you've not given them enough places to sharpen their claws. I built my own cat trees (2) from reclaimed wood and old(er) carpet (installed hardwood) and still have all our furniture untouched. Might give your kids some other places to scratch... even a couple 4' 2x4's, in a vertical positions, will get used. Our kids scratch on all the bare wood they can. They have learned to not like scratching on things that have material on them. Bare wood is their preference, but there is some clean up of shredded wood, regularly. Just hit it with the vac when going around the house.

BTW, it's cat belly season...

We live in a log cabin - so they feel free to scratch the door frames, logs and - yes - the furniture!

I think they do it specifically to se how quickly I can get out of my chair and race across the room! Little turds!

Yea, ya gotta luv these little "life tests" that are tossed around daily, like candy... eh?:lol:;) So, are you a cat herder?

You remember the message from the Emergency Broadcast System, from decades ago, right? Well, my version...

This life is a test, it is only a test. Had it been an actual life, you would have been told where to go and what to do...

(Yea, I think a bit differently :D)

Well, the correct term is venomous. Poison is ingested, venom is injected. (sorry, ingrained in me through the zoo). Anyway, no it wasn't venomous. You may say it's no worries, but you haven't met my husband. LOL

XD what evs close enough. If I found a snake in the house I would catch it and let it go :p

I gave up herding cats.......they simply sit and look at you like you're mentally challenged!

My old guy is very mellow, the youngster has just gotten out of the terrible 2s', although he is still a bit of a 'wild child'. The ginger cat loves to go out with the Beagles - it's funny to see the 3 of them rooting around the pond in search of frogs etc.

But they are all adorable..

Yes, cheap entertainment. Also luv watching our kids, on the hunt. Right now they are both staring at the oven. We're having pizza tonight, but I doubt this is why. I suspect a rodent was obtained and is now feeling safe under the oven. Little does it know...

We have a decomposing something under the sink cupboard - can't get it out........I'm sure it was one of Gingers' maimed 'toys'

This thing goes higher, into the clouds. Then I have another multi-post scratcher and one of those cardboard scratching boxes all in a tiny house. I think she's un-trainable and doesn't speak English, not connected well enough. She's very sweet and pretty, but she is incorrigible. I'll try the wood. Thanks for that suggestion!
