I'm so sorry about Jasper, silly4buttons!

It's always hard when our kitties lose their lives to the road. When I was young I had a black and white kitty named Purr who was hit by a car just few months after I got him. He was a such a sweetheart and tolerated my sister and I dressing him in baby doll clothes.

Thanks Chickenchick11. Moo's still in the hospital on IV fluids. He is responding though. They hope to send him home tomorrow, even though his creatinine level will likely still be high at around 4 (but it was 20). I'm going to have to give him sub-q fluids daily and a prescription diet (so now he can eat meat by-products instead of the quality food he was getting!). We have to see how he does when he's off the IV fluids and on the sub-q. His levels need to stay stable or he's in serious trouble. He's really suffered a lot and his mental health is deteriorating now, which is why they want to get him home ASAP. Going to take some real TLC to get him back. And, because I'm not in enough complete financial ruin over this, I'm going to be getting him acupuncture treatments. They are supposed to be very good for kidney support, both human and animals. What I do for the animals - I'm the one who needs acupuncture!

Moo - I opted not to have surgery to find out what is blocking Moo's right ureter completely. They can't tell what the blockage is from their imaging, hence the recommendation for surgery, at Tufts, at the tune of $4,000-$6,000. I took him home last night. Enough hospital and stress!! He's not doing well. Vet's think he'll just get really sick, really fast, go into complete renal failure and... I'm taking him to a wholistic vet today who has a great reputation. I hope alternative therapies can help Moo. He feels really bad this morning. He's really skinny.

The Chinese herbs she gave me to give to him smell horrible and he really freaks out completely when I shoot them down his throat. But, I've got to try this. He's getting some kind of Japanese non-invasive acupuncture next week. He's not eating, only by syringe, but he is a little bit active at times, which gives me hope. He was half heartedly hunting a bug earlier and ran to greet me when I came home from work today. He's skin and bones - 5 lbs. Kidney disease is really awful. This is the first cat of mine that has had it. I think they suffer a lot because they feel so sick from the build up of toxins.

Thanks for asking about Moo. They don't know what's causing the blockage, that's one of the problems. Could be a stone(s), could be infection (waiting on urine culture), could be some things I can't spell, could be cancer… That's one of the reasons I did not have the surgery done, some are not fixable and I just couldn't let his last hours/day be in a hospital all in pain. He remains quiet, but he's looking pretty good right now. I still have to syringe feed him. No way is he starving to death on my watch, plus he needs the nutrients. He hasn't peed today - not good. Still, he seems okay, sunning himself in the window on a blanket, very comfy, gets up now and then and roams around. I don't know. The vets said there is a chance that whatever is blocking might resolve, slim chance, but a chance. I keep getting inflammation, maybe a fragment of a stone. It's odd because my crazy sister who is somewhat of a master in certain holistic methods, got the same, and so did the holistic vet - independently. So, I'm going with something like that with the hope that the Chinese herbs, magnet therapy, acupuncture, antibiotics, amitryptilin, omega 3's, fluids, appropriate food, and sunny window, will resolve it. Beats crying.

Really nice of you to ask. Right now, he's hiding in the litter box after I gave him pills, liquids, syringe fed him.... I need to reassure him. He's okay. Quiet with an occasional little rally. He likes to sit in the window. I've been trying to make him very comfy.

His creatinine level was 6.1 today, up from 5.8 when they discharged him. I may end up having the surgery done, but at the hospital he's been in. They hope it's a stone or fragment blocking the ureter that has caused inflammation. If they get it, his kidney might heal, and then he would not get chronic kidney disease, or as least not severely. I'm going to talk with the surgeon tomorrow and make a decision. It'll be cheaper there, but I don't know how much yet. Cheaper, right.


Poor little guy, his eyes get black and he just looks up at me when I'm about to give him some food or medication. He's getting all sorts of stuff including the Chinese herbs, which must taste dreadful. I am hoping this has a happy ending. I have more hope than when it first happened, but the vets keep telling me how serious it is.

Awwww, poor Moo. *HUGS* Your such a wonderful kitty parent for looking into all these treatments to help him. Do you know if the Chinese herbs are helping, or is it too early to tell? Praying that you will be able to know what's best for Moo, and wether to go ahead with the surgery or not. Keep us updated on his condition.

One of our kitties just hanging out with the girls. Our cats (2) are really good with our girls. They just sit nearby and keep an eye out.
