Cattle Dogs (Queensland) Changing?

Oh odd, what are they calling the bulky bully guys? Did they breed something else in? I actually love blocky dogs myself! . Just not a fan of the look for ACDs myself.

To the OP: the first ACD looks like it's just over weight. The second one however looks like they bred an ACD with an American Bully! What are they breeding to get the "New thing"?

I would love to see a picture, I see alot of ACD's crossed with Coolies. That maybe your Bo's case.

Sam is not crossed however, he is a pure. His "double" mask is too big and his black spot are disqualify traits - but he is what we call a Hall's Heeler.

He has the white star on his head and white tip tail. His mother was a runt that was rescued, she was never ment to breed but
the owners said she escaped one night and later had a litter.

I think in an earlier post I said about the Hall's or queensland cattle there are a few names that are classified to ACD so its a mess trying to look at types and breed when there are in fact 3 'types'

His litter mates were show quality, But Sam was only ever to be a family dog.

Here in the states there are not 3 types, they are all the same breed ( that is IF they are AKC registered and from the original accepted foundation stock and not the McNivens dogs ) . Nearly all ACD's have the white spot or Bently mark and every once in a while we do get a body spot and white tail tips or even wild raccoon tails are common. Here a body spot is not a disqualification just undesirable as are the reverse speckled dogs ( white with tan and blue spots ) but I have seen finished champions of each. If the dog is outstanding judges take that into consideration.

That particular dog is from a local place that has several generations on site. As near as I can tell, they are all cattle dogs (mouth corners and all are in line with that being the case), with no bully breeds or anything being bred in. The trend is just going toward breeding blockier (ie. have you seen traditional Am pitbulls next to the over muscled ones? Not mixes, but bred to be big and blocky. A bit different as that is not a show trend as far as I know). They are AKC registered, though obviously that can be falsified, but the trend towards blocky is something I haven't been able to escape in general. X(

I love the first dog...you couldn't pay me enough to buy the second. Went from streamline to blocky and lost the intelligent ACD eyes I just love. Just my personal opinion.

Yeah the first one is just wrong as you said it is very easy to forge papers especially since cattle dog coloring seems to come through no matter what the cross is, i saw a red speckled pit bull at a dog park once , asked the guy and sure enough it was an oops between 2 show dogs!
The second dog is overdone as well but I have seen dogs like this from moderate parents, I have a good friend who has a male who has the same sire as Emmie and the dams are half sisters, he has a pretty extreme head, he is a Grand Champion, moves like a dream AND has multiple obedience and herding titles and he has been kicked by a cow in the head, got back up shook it off and went after the cow! I doubt one of the little thin small headed dogs would have survived it, maybe that is why in the early days some ranchers started using the bigger dogs, just a thought...
The 3rd pic didn't come through but the 4-5th pics from the same breeder don't seem odd to me one is a ***** and one is a mature male, and males heads do get bigger as time goes on.

Ah well it seems like so many give in to the pressure.....curious as the top ACD in the country is not a big overdone male actually he as sort of feminine looking As you can see he is not huge, has a nice moderate head , he is a very pretty mover and can herd !I would love to have a blue ***** that looks like this !

Yeah, he doesn't look bad to me at all (that is a dog I'd buy or buy pups from based on looks alone). Not all wedge shaped with a huge muzzle!

Give him a black spot and he looks identical to Trixie... Looks double coated like she is, too. He looks feminine but I LOVE that look.. HIS look is the look I like in my ACD's, but I may just be spoiled to my first... Trixie is my girl. - I've had five heelers over the years but the other four didn't fit in. Maggie, at 2 months pregnant, cornered Skylar on the porch and my best friend ( who was 6 months preggers at the time ) there was no backing Maggie down. I had to put her down to get her away from them. Wasn't taking that risk.

Diesal was one of Trixie's puppies. Overly entergetic and went to a working home. This dog needed a minimum 8 hour day and could still run..

Jackson was too aggressive to keep around Skylar. He was overly protective, and between him and Trixie no one could come near me. Not even Skylar or my mother. He would back them up with a sneer, and a low 'come at me' growl. I was the only one who could handle him. He passed away at 8 a few years ago, and was a fantastic dog if I kept him penned when he wasn't leashed at my side and penned when Skylar was visiting.

Then there was the blue puppy who I rehomed to my vet who fell in love with her.

But, Trixie is my world. And I'm amazed at HOW MUCH her body shape reminds me of this male here.

Yep as you can see there are still breeders out there who breed for moderate dogs and brains and many judges like that!

Actually all Cattle Dogs are supposed to be double coated.
As for temperament I have 5 females and have had no problems like this, one of the reasons I bought my first CH from her breeder was temperament, that is the problem with so many "Heelers" people just breed them with no health or temperament considerations...sad but true, I know of a horse person in my area who has produced and sold at least 2 deaf puppies and several with very aggressive temperaments, who knows about PRA or Hip and Elbow dysplasia because they don't spend the money to test for it, people like that make me sick!
