Cayuga Angel Wing

I use one that's milled here in California. Brand is Farmer's. I buy it because peachicks need more protein and I feed it to the ducklings because I don't have room for a duck starter too. It's 27% protein, so I don't recommend that others use it for duck, though mine do fine on it. :hide.

I don't know the amount of manganese in the brand @casportpony uses or in flock raiser, but using the source that was pointed out in another thread, it looks like generally ducks need 50mg and turkeys need 60mg per kg of feed. With the differences in their body and growth rates what seems like miniscule differences could add up.

https://www.nap.edu/read/2114/chapter/5 <---- turkey requirements (turkeys obviously have a lot more requirements for a balanced diet).
Interesting though.
I wonder if through genetics certain ducks are predisposed to angel wing which could therefore be brought on by their diet.
@CayugaJana How old are the ducklings?

My male cayuga is about 7 weeks old and he had a large growth spurt about two weeks ago. I noticed his wings or the little carpel things where his wings eventually will come out was sticking out from his body. Rather than laying up against his body. I watched it for about a week and they kept sticking out more and more. So I was pretty sure it was angel wing. Plus when I would get home from work I would notice my boys had got the bags of mealworms out and fed them a WHOLE big bag of them. This happened a couple days in a row. So I think the large amounts of protein is why Skipper had a big growth spurt making his wings weak and unsturdy. I have attached some photos of what he looked like and what I did. I cut the toe off of a lightweight flexible dress sock. Then I slipped it over his head and moved it in place. I have put the sock on him 3 nights out of the last week and I can tell a big difference after each night. It will probably only take a few more nights.
This is a very good post and a great example of how one could fix angel wing.
