I have raised chickens for many years, and have incubated eggs. This year I am attempting to have a Cayuga duck hatch some eggs. So far, she has a great nest, with 8 eggs. The other day she layed her next egg out of the nest, and did the same thing the next day. She is not yet laying on her pile of eggs much at all. What does this mean? Should the eggs be placed back in the nest or left alone?

Hm alright, thanks. Do you know if there is any way to persuade her into going broody? She also has a very small house, bout 3x2 and an outdoors part. We always have to open the door to feed and water. Do you think that might be too much invasion of privacy and be discouraging to her?

Generally my muscovy go broody without my intervention. It's a hormonal state that has been bred out of many poultry. I know certain duck breeds no longer go broody but I don't know the specifics.

@chickens really do you know?
