You guessed right. You did exactly the right thing. Snakes come in to get water and a water moccasin might just decide to take up residence in you duck water (pond?). I recently was putting my ducks away for the night and almost stepped on a rattle snake. Lucky for me I was able to get the ducks out and get my gun and effectively split the creature in half.

We put the remains on an ant hill out in our field in hopes that it might actually poison the ants. Don't know if it did or if the ants had a snake meal but the next day it was gone. The picture above is its body and its head (upper right). It had a button and two rattles so it was at least 2 years old. About 18 inches long.

I currently have one female Cayuga in my mixed flock (picture below) and she has turned out to be such a beauty and funny little girl that I have just ordered 18 more (15 females and 3 males). They are supposed to be shipped on the 11th and, because I am close to the hatchery, will/should arrive on the 12th. So, I have to get everything ready for them. Pictures will follow of course.

You can see my little black beauty above. We originally thought she was a male so her name was Daffy. Now it is Daffadillia. The new babies will make a total of 24 ducks. I also have 24 hens, 1 rooster, 3 Toulouse geese and 8 dogs.
pretty i like your splash looking duck with the crest we have 21 ducks 5 baby cayuga's 1 apple yard drake 10 baby pekin's 1 full grown cayuga hen 2 cayuga drakes and 1 cross drake

Thanks. The crested grey and white and the grey and white above her are Blue Swedish/Welsh Harlequin mixes. The other three are one male and two female Khaki Campbells. They have all matured a lot since that picture and have their adult colors. The Cayuga is black and reflects green, blue and turquoise in the sun.

That reflecting is just like what are drakes are like but hens have that to.

She is adorable! Lol love the name. Same thing happened to me but the other way around. Had a runner named Daffodil but it was a drake so we called him Daffy.

I thought I had a bunch of animals, but you win. I have 26 chickens, 8 geese, 7 ducks, 5 cats, and 6 large dogs. I do plan on getting more Cayuga ducks though, I have 1 male, 3 female ducklings and want more already. Lol. Also looking to get white African geese and some brown Chinese geese. I have 4 white Chinese and 4 brown Africans, lol. I am already on the wait lists from breeders for my goose eggs next season. Now to find a good source of Cayuga eggs and I am all set.

Y'all just made me feel a lot better...I'm always getting teased about my menagerie. 4 horses, 3 boer goats, 31 chickens, 5 Cayuga ducks, 3 cats, 2 dogs, and 2 tanks full of fish! At least I'm not alone in this lol

Yes I have a 3 acr pond if it was 4 acres it would be a lake .

My turn ,

17 dogs , 13 cats , 46 ducks , 4 geese , 1 rabbit , , 12 parrots , and 1 turtle .

Wow, that's a zoo! Are the dogs and cats fixed? Cause if not, you will have double what you have now next year! All my cats are female and spayed. 3 of my dogs are fixed, the other 3 are pure bred Siberian Huskies and I'm going to breed them. My black and white male is from show lines, and is gorgeous, I have a copper female who is stunning, and an agouti female who looks like a wolf.

I wish I could have horses.
