Anyone have Cayuga ducks? Comments? Also Indian Runner ducks... I really like them and they seem like they have fun personalities, but they are skittish.

My runners don't seem skittish. But I put many hours into socializing with them.

They have personalities, alright! Wonderful ducks

I have some Buffs, too. They are all delightful.

I have 4 Cayugas, 3 boys and 1 girl. (I also have Pekins) The Cayugas are lovely in personality and in appearance. We've had them since they were 1 day old, it's so much fun watching them grow. Ours are now a little over 6 months old. I hear alot of people complain about 'mean' drakes but my cayuga boys are very gentle. Mine are not skittish at all, but my husband and I spend a lot of time with them. The cayuga breed seemed to love the water from day one in the pool they were diving. The boys are really quiet and Clementine is only loud in the mornings when we open the coop door before breakfast and in the evenings the girls chat a little before bed. I live in a area with neighbors on either side but noone in front or behind. The neighbors have never complain and often send us extra kitchen scraps. They love watching the ducks in the mornings almost as much as we do. Is there anything you were wondering in particular? Our cayugas also are very friendly and eat from our hands, they get pets but arent too fussy with being picked up unless you are just putting them in the pool. If something is scary, and you pick one up I've noticed the rest will calm, like "oh look moms here, it's ok now" . IU hope this helps a little.

I got my cauyogas when they were 2 weeks old so it was hard to bond with them, they were very close to each other and hated to be separated to be picked up. Now they're 6 months but they do have such a personality and they will eat out of my hand. I've "wrangled" one in a corner to pick him up and they are calm once you get them and hold them but I hate to get them all panicky just to pick them up. I call them my bad boys and they seem to perk up when I call them that! I have 4 ducks and I got them when they were older so no day old bonding but that's ok because they know who I am and I enjoy my times with them. Maybe in the spring I'll get some ducklings and I'll take one under my wing...so to speak...and then I'll have a close duck.

I used to have a Cayuga named Sophie, but she went missing a couple of months ago, we think a predator got her. I only had her for 2 months but I loved her.

I LOVE MY CAYUGAS!!!! they are fantastic!!! such personalities on them. get along well with my chickens however they make my Roos run far far away from them. the girls (i believe) are about 6 monthes old and are quite quiet. they are great creatures and i cant wait to get more!
