Cedar Stump

Is there any harm in putting a cedar tree stump in the chicken run?
aromatic cedar can cause respiratory problems in birds, that said, how old is the stump? Does it smell like cedar? If not, then its probably ok. I have dozens of cedar stumps in their pasture (from clearing the pasture) and they have not caused any issues. I won't grind them down until they are out of that pasture though.

The tree was just cut down, so it is quite fresh

What about inside a coop? I know shavings are bad but what about a whole cedar log?
I also have some thick cedar branches that I was thinking of making into roosts. Maybe just in the open run & not in the henhouse?
Thought they might deter mites
