cedar trees in the chicken pen...?? good idea or not?

Hi there & welcome to BYC!

Cedar trees won't be a problem for your birds. Where I live, you can't throw a rock in any direction without hitting either a cedar or a juniper tree. My birds are in and around them all day long. I've even used them as roosts in the coop. It's perfectly fine. The issue is with cedar shavings as brooder bedding. The aromatics *may* be too much for chicks. I don't know how true that is, but there are so many other options for brooder bedding that it really isn't a big deal to pick something else and not worry about it.
