CENTRAL FLORIDA (Ocala) SWAP MEET - July 18th

Hello,
YES--I have chix. $4/ea. I just had my first DARK MilleFleur girl hatch. She is 3 weeks old. Previously it seemed that the dark milles were always boys and the light were girls. So, this is quite interesting to me. I can't wait to see how she feathers out, so if anyone buys her, I want pics later!

I will try to post some pics of the babies.

Did you want eggs at the swap or sooner? I have a few orders before the swap and the rain has put a damper on my girls' laying. Never fails...as soon as I offer eggs, the weather changes, someone goes broody, or someone just decides they aren't going to lay for a few days!

Yes---we went on May 2nd. We got there before 7am because it was quite a drive (almost 2 hours) and I didn't want to get all the way out there and not have a space. But, the feed store says there is really no chance of running out of space even though they say "First come first serve".

My biggest thing was I had about 15 black copper marans. I had hatched a whole bator full of eggs and nearly EVERY ONE HATCHED, so I had to sell some.

I didn't sell ONE because no-one knew what they were. They were 2 mos. old and sat there an baked in the big dog pet traveler.

The swap was very homey, everyone was very nice. They give away feed every hour, and they gave away a goat and a pig, as well. We sold 13 dozen (I think it was 13) of my bro-in-law's eating eggs within the first hour! That was to 2 people! We sold a calico silkie hen, a few Serama pairs, and some chicks, but gave away A LOT of birds (none of which were the BCM---too much money into them!). I didn't want to go home with so many, so towards the end I was making people take them...esp ROOSTERS!

They were also VERY organized...when you drive in, the guide you to where you will park, and there is an outside water source if needed. We were stuck next to the pig truck

Yikes!

They have the swap the first and 3rd sat. of the month now, and the next on is July 4th, where they will be offering 'free slices of chilled watermelon' and their usual drawings for feed and stock.

If I were closer, I'd go more often, but with it being such a distance, we may not go back until it starts cooling down again.

Oh...and I got the best home-made strawberry jam from someone, and have been having withdrawals since we haven't made it back!

How much did you sell the eating eggs for?

Hi Halo,

$1.50 because once spring hit, they were hardly getting any sales! I think we could have done $2, and they still would have sold right away. I will say that once the price of eating eggs go up again in stores (I noticed that the price went down once winter was over) they will sell for $3, easily.

They were my brother-in-law's...I think you know him. He and his wife are in Ocala and they have some of your blue rocks...ThePamperedPullet?

This is completely non chicken related, but.....SOMEONE BROKE INTO MY HOUSE!!!

They got 4 guns and the xbox and games. They had the TV and other electronics unplugged, but didn't have time to take them...we think DH came home on them, although he didn't actually see them. They also tried to break into the gun safe, but couldn't. One of the guns they stole has been in my family for almost 40 years.

Everything else can be replaced, but not that one. The good news is nobody got hurt, including the dogs and we think we have a lead as to who did it...some no-good kids in the neighborhood. Fingers crossed they find my heirloom gun.

I'm so glad we're moving next week....

Sorry you lost the gun Kelly. There's no way to put a value on something like that. At least everyone is safe.

Kelly,

I am so sorry for your loss. I hate kids that are bad!

I know that they all aren't. I blame the parents. Get someone to watch your kids if you can't. I will pray that you get your gun back.

Kelly, Im so sorry that happened. Thank goodness you weren't home, but if it was neighborhood jerks, they were probably watching the house. I hope the sheriff can get the proof they need to arrest them and find your items..

One day these jerks will get shot by an owner who is sick and tired of this. And fortunately, in FL, the owner is perfectly within his rights to.

I agree totally...I'm a pretty good shot too!

They'd have been in the morgue if either of us had been home when it happened...stupid kids.
