Someone brought up the idea that if we could get someone to donate some quail we could cook it up with the burgers and dogs. I would have hatched some out if I'd thought about it sooner, but if anyone has lots of extra males, let us know!
 
ooooo...I love quail!! As long as I don't have to dispatch them...I can clean and cook them!!

Sad news...I only ended up with one Royal Palm baby.

Only 4 eggs developed and only one of those hatched. One quit late, 1 died trying to get out (looked like the membrane got over his nose and suffocated him), and the other one I cracked open was deformed (no eyes and missing part of the top beak). So much for my Royal Palms...

My only solace is that a friend is giving me a trio of Bourbon Reds to take home with me after the first of the year...not the breed I was aiming for, but at least they're live turkeys! They're about 6 months old, so they should lay in the spring.
 
Yeah I know the feeling I have been looking for Blue Slates for a while & found every other breed in the country but that breed eludes me. I have seen a few that people have advertised & went to look at them & they arent pure Blue Slates so I just finally quit lookin' figured that if I was meant to have them -- they will fall in my lap one day. That is how its been for alot of the stuff I couldnt find then--BAM there it is. But if your Royal ends up being a hen let me know if you need a male. I have a male & havent really decided if I am gonna keep him. But I paid an arm & a leg for him that is the only prob w/him, but we can always do some swappin' for something.

Obviously I could never get my money back out of it. If it ends up being a hen I would definitely be interested in a tom though. I think I'm going to advertise and try to find some eggs locally to see if I have better luck with the hatching.
