Change is inevitable...

Oh yeah, it kinda creeped me out to see my old avatar back in place, as I went off it a while ago.

But it's actually surprisingly easy and fast to replace, especially as here the picture actually CHANGES instead of morphing into a stretched-out version of the original.

Yeah, that is pretty cool, actually. Although even if it didn't, I'd still be okay because I uploaded all my past avatars a couple of weeks ago.

P.S. I'm really enjoying this replying at the bottom of the thread thing. I suppose it's because I'm either on a very slow computer or one that gives me time constraints, so not having to click to a reply page helps a lot.

Yeah Ray change happens for sure but for us poor people out in the boonies who only have satalite internet this change over is awful. Takes forever to load pages. I guess if you have real internet it would not be so bad. I don't know why it is cause i usually love change and new and exciting sites but the feel to this one is like it has gone backwards.. Oh well guess it will leave me more time for other things now

Yes, "This too shall pass." (The fumbling, the frustration, and perhaps some of the griping.)

I'm also out in the boonies and use satellite access to the Internet, too. But I'm not experiencing all that much of a wait for things... some things..... and just a few seconds, at most. Maybe 15. How hard is it to wait for 15, maybe 20 seconds?

I learned a LOT by viewing the demo videos. It really helped cut down my frustration. Now, my iPad - which I use at work to surf BYC - is hiccupping a lot on the new format.

Some of my job responsibilities are to deploy new technology, new telephone systems, new radio systems and other telecommunications systems within my department, all over the state of California. People do NOT like change. Any new system not only requires additional training, but there will be bugs for quite some time. With over 113,000 registered users, BYC is populated with folks of all levels of skill and a whole continuum of flexibility.

This is Day One, folks. Chill. Or practice your favorite personal method of relaxation. You'll either learn how to utilize all the features or you'll stick with the simple stuff. Kinda like the folks who use the new phone system at work and decide all they need to know how to do is answer the phone, put a caller on hold, disconnect the call, and maybe, just possibly, transfer a call somewhere. But there's so much more that new phone system can DO, and a lot of it is very interesting and remarkable.

As is BYC.

I think our satalite is much slower than you have in the U.S there. I was actually only typing that to Ray who i think would better understand the slowness of the internet in Aus. I did say I am sure it would work great if you had better . The format is fine but feels dated to me as I said before not sure why that is. I don't believe i need to chilll nor did I say it would not get better. Just stating my first opinion on the new site.

Satay, I am sorry if you felt personally targeted. That wasn't my intention - honest. I've been reading posts all day long from frustrated and angry peeps. (Not little fluffy butt chicks.)

That's fine mate. No worries. I took it the wrong way. Been over 40c here all week and i think the heat has gone to my brain lol.

satay, even with the painfully slow loading aside, I'm in agreement with you that the new layout & forum accessibility seems outdated almost to the feel of the old, staggered, drop down thread sites kinda like the old easy boards that slowly were all but abandoned over time for sites that had user/equipment friendly browsing.  I'm a member of several large worldwide forums that receive more traffic and are also ad sponsored for the most part, yet those formats are tight, easy to follow, function well with older browsers/equipment, have user-friendly access for easy browsing of forums & threads, have the bells and whistles, and are fast for most browsers and even reasonably ok for dialup.  That being said....

Being that we here are very graciously invited guests in another's home, we've, rightfully so, no say over the household's choices or the household's business decisions. &nbsp; So to me, bottom line is unless changes are made for invited guest's browsing ease, we're left to either choose to find a way to adapt, or, sadly, move on elsewhere if the site won't function for us and our equipment.&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_305" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/hit.gif" />&nbsp;I would hope not the latter for any of us. &nbsp; We gotta find a way.&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_719" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/big_smile.png" />&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_442" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/hugs.gif" /></p>

Are you using Hughes net or such? &nbsp;I use a verizon aircard (about $60 a month) and still had to install the google chrome browser (which I did not want to do AT ALL) in order to increase the site loading speed (it wasn't needed to browse other larger sites I'm a member of)...of course it doesn't address the oldtimey site layout issues, but at least it's faster now instead of waiting 30 seconds+ for any page to load or waiting that long just to toggle between forums. &nbsp;I've done things since the BYC "upgrade" to be able to access BYC that I would not do for friends' sites.&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_579" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/hmm.png" />

Before the move, towards the first-middle of Feb I was enthusiastically planning to support the site with a yearly paid membership. &nbsp; We shall see how it goes.&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_859" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/hu.gif" />&nbsp; &nbsp; What browser are you using and is there a way you can try to upgrade it in the hopes it might help you?&nbsp;<img id="yui_3_4_1_2_1326349372651_999" src="https://www.backyardchickens.com/styles/byc-smilies/hugs.gif" /></p>

haha, I obviously need to work out the kinks in the copy/paste since as posted as a direct reply it would submit.
