Change of plans

I need some suggestions for foliage in the "chicken yard". It has zero shade or cover for over half the day. My husband said I can do whatever I want with it
Maybe trees or bushes? You would probably have to put something like chicken wire around them at first, so they can get established.

I see that you are in Texas, but I have no idea what kind of plants are suitable for your climate.

I'm in zone 8, we get extremely hot and humid and extremely cold, lol... roses do fantastic here, had them at our old house, but I'd like a mix maybe with some broad cover

Received an email saying that 2 of my selections wouldn't be available for my hatch date, so I cancelled my part of the order (my neighbor's chicks are still coming) and placed an order through My Pet Chicken, so basically the same thing arriving March 1st. They will be 6 week olds, but at least I have all my stuff ready for chicks, lol...My husband said we will start the integration section this weekend, and he also said he wants to completely enclose the entire chicken run and yard (bonus)!

I know it! No sad faces though, the only thing that sucks is that I was looking forward to my first chick experience! It'll be all good! I did pay a bit more, but it's egg money so I guess you could say they paid for themselves.

Ok, got the in coop brooder/hospital/broody hut done for the most part, want to add 1 little door, but I may not because it worked fine last year with just the 1 door propped open. I put an eye hook for the big door as 1 entry point for the littles. Even with it closed off I still have 7x7 of open floor space, which ends up being 6.13sqft per lady, so I'll be stopping there as I don't want to crowd them. Also did a little refresh on the coop litter and DH did some mowing so the ladies have some work to do in their run :celebrate

So you've used this brooder wall before?
I was wondering about you being able to access the whole brooder with just that one door.

I have not. Last year it was a piece of my prefab that was smaller but still with 1 door. I wanted something more permanent. The door is 27x18, and I can reach in there with no problems.
